We have taken some of those ideas and figured out ways in which we can do similar work. We actually have learned a lot from CAMP concerning what they have developed over time which has proven to be effective and supportive. Some of the students do not continue with our program, so, we connect them with other resources on campus that will support their journey and CAMP is one of them. We have a very large number of freshmen and sophomores that take our introductory courses to see if they are interested in teaching. Harris informed me about the program and as a result we let our students know about CAMP and the various types of support it offers. Q: How did you become involved with the CAMP program?ĭr. We produce a lot of social justice, and change agent, future educators in math and science. They have the opportunity to earn their bachelor’s degree in their STEM discipline as well as the California Preliminary Teaching Credential in just four years. All the students that we serve are from STEM schools, specifically from Biological Sciences or Physical Sciences. I am the Director of the CalTeach Program at UCI which is unique to the UC’s.
Q: In what capacity do you work at UC Irvine? Zinger is the Director of the CalTeach Program at the UCI School of Education. He began his career as a high school science teacher and then moved on to becoming an administrator. degree in Biological Sciences and a Ph.D. Doron Zinger is a UCI Alum that earned his B.S.

Harris spoke at the Women of UCI Speaker Series, on May 20th to discuss her academic and professional journey in postsecondary education. CAMP is grateful for the partnership and would especially thank Nayeli Inzunza, Marlon Pinedo, and Patrick Turpin for the invitation to present to their membership.ĭr. The discussions spanned across various intersections concerning communicating with faculty on potential research opportunities, to filling out documentation to apply to the SRS program, and timing related to research involvement. It is a fantastic opportunity for students that are engaged in research with a faculty PI to discuss their experience, engage in scholarly literature focused on what it means to be an engineer or scientist, and strengthen their presentation skills and academic strategies. We are excited to announce that the Summer Research Scholars Application is open, and the deadline has been extended to June 2nd! The program will launch virtually on June 23rd and conclude on August 11th. Applicants who may have questions should contact the CAMP office at documents must be submitted via the following link: Applications must be received by no later than 5:00 PM on June 2, 2021.
